Scotiabank Partners With Rotary Club To Provide PPE For Belize Police Department
$5000 Donation to be used for the purchase of protective face shields
July 8, 2020 – Scotiabank Belize, on July 8, handed over a donation of $5000 BZ to the Rotary Club for the provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the Belize Police Department.
Through the Rotary Club, protective face shields will be procured and distributed to members of the Police Department. The gesture comes as Belize announces phased re-opening for tourism and other areas of the economy amid the global COVID-19 crisis.
Making the presentation, Sarah Hobbs, Managing Director of Scotiabank Belize Ltd. yesterday expressed commendation for the Department for their exemplary service despite the challenges now being faced in the country.
“The impact of COVID-19 cannot be ignored or taken lightly and despite this, the men and women of the Belize Police Department continue to work tirelessly to keep us safe,” Hobbs said.
“Scotiabank is honoured to support the work of the Department by contributing these well-needed protective equipment especially at such a time when they must risk their health and livelihood for the protection of others,” Hobbs explained.
Mike Kelly, President of the Rotary Club of Belize, also hailed the Police Department. “As Rotarians, our role in this global crisis is to find ways to improve the quality of life for our people. We are thankful to Scotiabank for coming on board to assist with this very worthy cause,” Kelly said.
Expressing thanks on behalf of the Police Department, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Dezerie Magdaleno said “this is a very timely donation particularly as we prepare to welcome visitors back to our shores and support the reopening of business in Belize. As law enforcement officers, we put our lives on the line in the daily execution of our duties despite the risk and challenges and so any contribution that we are able to receive to make our jobs safer is welcomed”.
In attendance at the brief handover ceremony was Mr. Erwin Arthurs, Branch Manager, from the Belize City branch.
Globally, Scotiabank has donated over USD 2.5 million towards various programmes and initiatives aimed at reducing the spread of COVID-19.
